POSITION Overview:
The Lead Hardware Engineer is responsible for leading a team of electrical & mechanical engineers, with the support of technician staff, to specify, design, develop, test, optimize, deploy, and sustain the hardware technology of the company, which includes automotive ignition interlock and home monitoring devices.
DUTIES &
Responsibilities:
Lead the H/W team in the architecting, design, development, and sustainment of electro-mechanical hardware, including analog and digital circuit design, schematic capture, PCB layout, BOM generation, ECN creation/support, and product/design specifications.
Lead the planning, execution, and documentation of hardware verification testing, including board bring up, trouble shooting, and design optimization.
Lead/support ignition interlock industry certification and regulatory compliance efforts.
Assist in the development of embedded & PC-based product test, test automation, and diagnostic tools.
Work with Engineering, Manufacturing, and other departments to resolve all hardware quality issues, and to drive continuous improvement and cost reduction efforts.
Perform additional duties as required by Engineering.

SKILL& REQUIREMENTS:
8-10 years of experience in electro-mechanical product design, having directly and actively taken products through the full development process, from inception to full-scale production and sustainment (full development lifecycle).
Intimate knowledge of H/W development tools and capabilities, product testing practices, fabrication processes, and DFM/DFT.
Highly proficient with analog and digital circuit design, including switching power supplies, small-signal sensor signal conditioning, high-speed signaling, microcontrollers, UART, RS485, SPI, I2C, USB, CAN, and 802.xx.
Experience integrating wireless communications into larger systems, including WiFi, Bluetooth, RFID, CDMA/GSM, and GPS interfaces.
RF design experience, such as circuit layout & antenna design/placement, strongly desired.
Familiarity with display technologies (OLED, LCD, etc.), audio and video capture sensors and signal processing, battery charging and monitoring, and electro-chemical sensors desired.
Familiarity with automotive power and control systems, including ODB2, advanced ignition systems, and hybrid/all-electric
vehicles
desired.
Experience with EDA tools (schematic capture & layout - Altium preferred). The knowledge of and adherence to PCB best practices is a must, such as optimized component placement, layer assignment, routing for good signal integrity, EMC/EMI abatement, etc.
Experience with circuit simulation tools (Altium, SPICE).
Strong hardware troubleshooting skills, including excellent working knowledge of lab equipment (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, spectrum analyzers, function generators, ESD guns, soldering irons, thermal chambers, etc.).
Strong knowledge and experience of how to design products to meet compliance requirements, such as EMC/EMI, PTCRB/Verizon/Sprint, UL, etc., and prior experience taking products through compliance testing.
Software development experience using C and/or scripting/run-time languages to support diagnostic and test automation activities.
Familiarity with embedded software development during design, code creation, and debug desired to support firmware development team.
Proven leadership skills in planning and reviewing other's work, mentoring junior team members, and supervising development activities.
Strong penchant to develop and promote engineering best practices. Recent and thorough experience generating product build documents (BOMs, ECNs, etc.), knowledge of document control standards and procedures, and the generation product design specifications.
Strong verbal and written communication skills are a must.
Demonstrated ability to prioritize and lead multiple projects with limited oversight, and a strong desire to get projects done efficiently and effectively.
Must be energetic, self-motivated, team player with a keen attention to detail.
EDUCATION:
BS/MS in Electrical Engineering (MS preferred)
