Description:
Responsible for operating and maintaining laboratory equipment and for accurately recording results of tests within the assigned laboratory.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Assists in the design, construction and use of special test fixtures and apparatuses
Ability to independently perform tests and experiments
Accurately records data and assists in its organization and analysis
Uses computerized data acquisition and control systems
Performs required maintenance of laboratory equipment and machinery
Assists Research engineers and technicians and has a significant personal contact with others in the Research Department, as well as with other departments

Expected Areas of Competence:

Demonstrated ability to independently perform all lab procedures in a timely manner demonstrate exemplary job performance in the Lab Technician role
Ability to operate sophisticated test machines, which may include corrosion test equipment and mechanical fatigue machines.
Detail oriented, analytical, and alert, as the work is of a non-routine nature
Ability to exercise good judgment in determining the reasonableness of the results possess effective verbal and written communication skills innovative with ability to make suggestions for improvement
Ability to work with minimum supervision the ability to work in a team environment and build relationships with other areas of the organization.
Familiarity with the administrative aspects for the laboratory operating procedures the ability to use a calculator and perform reliable calculations; ability to keep and record accurate and legible data; ability to work with small hand tools; ability to transport items in the 30-pound range

Education/ Experience Requirements:

Associate?s Degree in technical field or previous experience in a field pertinent to the assigned Lab.
Five or more years? experience in some of the following areas: high vacuum systems, electronics, mechanics, and laboratory procedures.
Must have a general science background, including basic math, algebra, chemistry and physics (depending upon lab assignment).
Experience using personal computers and working knowledge of Windows.
Knowledge of orthopedic materials is beneficial.

Travel Requirements
Up to 5%
Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
