Description
My client, a leading chemical manufacturing company, is seeking a Procurement Superintendent . This individual will plan, organize and supervise the comprehensive purchasing functions for the plant. Oversee daily activities including major purchases associated with capex and turnaround/shutdowns. Respond to a range of inquires or bid status; negotiating terms and conditions with vendors and/or service providers; and achieve department objectives and goals within budget. Will be responsible for managing the buyer assistant and warehouse personnel.
Essential duties and responsibilities
At a minimum, tasks will include:
Administer bidding process and contracts for vendor performance/compliance within established limits (e.g. prepare specifications, evaluate bids, recommend vendors, conduct bid meetings, etc.) for the purpose of securing items and/or
services
within budget
Directs all functions related to the purchase of equipment, supplies and services for the plant
Maintain purchasing information, files and records (e.g. request for proposals, purchase orders, vendor files, etc.)
Prepare and process requisitions and purchase orders for supplies and equipment
Research contract, suppliers, and equipment including evaluation of new products for the purpose of analyzing information to determine product and/or service need and availability as necessary
Serves as a liaison with vendors for the purpose of monitoring and consolidation of orders for better management and expenses
Supervises assigned staff for the purpose of ensuring work assignments are complete and within department objectives
Work with maintenance and operations personnel for the purpose of ensuring that equipment/supplies/products are in place in accordance with timelines and within budget
Perform other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring efficient and effective functioning of the plant
Control purchasing department budgets
Follow company safety and health guidelines and other company policies

Successful Candidates will have:
Education
- Bachelor's Degree in Business/Finance or other technical field
- CPM

Experience and Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years, experience supporting environmental compliance in the chemical industry or other industrial manufacturing.
- Possess good management skills, negotiation skills, researching tactics and marketing capabilities.
- Good financial skills are essential
- Experience in SAP
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to gather and evaluate complex information
- Ability to use personal
computer
software for word processing, spreadsheet and database applications

Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
