OVERVIEW
Under general supervision of the Application Development anmd Support
manager
, the Database Engineer performs work assignments as part of a project team which could include; developing, and implementing large-scale, high-volume databases and data warehouses, in the Open Source platforms of MySql and PostgreSQL. Key responsibilities for this
position
include, but are not limited to: software solution code development; serving as the data model subject matter expert; schema tuning and solutions testing. The successful candidate will also work with end-users, domain experts, support teams and product managers.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop a sound understanding of data flows and business rules; documenting and maintaining them, asking questions to clarify how systems work
Responsible for; addressing complexity, performance, and supportability of various databases.
Design and develop solutions that are high-performing and extendable on a global scale
Adherence to company architectural and development standards
Develop and provide system documentation as needed
Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to interface with all levels of employees and management is required
Demonstrate good teamwork and provide guidance and mentorship to less experienced staff members
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree (BS/BA) from a four-year college or university and 5
years of experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience
Strong understanding of MySQL and/or PostgreSQL
Proven abilities and knowledge in performance tuning of database related functions
Proven ability to work in a demanding, high paced environment
Ability to develop and maintain effective communication
Understanding of systems analysis and design (hardware, software, policies, procedure and data)
Ability to develop and maintain good technical and professional communication skills, both written and oral
Ability to work on multiple priorities involving different skill sets simultaneously
Ability to research, develop and manage systems unsupervised
Emphasizes structure, process and methodology
Ability to effectively adapt to and apply rapidly changing technology to business needsEstimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
