Summary:
This
position
carries out those activities required to conduct repairs and perform preventative maintenance activities on facilities in Juneau throughout rural
alaska
.
Performs skilled maintenance and
repair
on mechanical and electrical equipment;
including test and replace circuits, troubleshoot defective switches, receptacles, ballasts and other wiring; perform routine mechanical and electrical maintenance.
Performs a variety of skilled building maintenance including repairs to doors,
windows, roofs, drywall, carpet, flooring and other building parts; constructs and assemble furniture and other wood and metal structures; install and maintains lock systems.
Install and service standard plumbing fixtures, piping and drains and supply lines.
Paints, cleans and degreases as necessary walls, equipment and other surfaces.
Operate a variety of equipment and machines including various hand and power tools to perform repair and maintenance work; maintain tools and equipment in a safe, clean and proper working condition.
Purchases when necessary equipment and materials; operate light trucks to pick up and deliver equipment and supplies.
Other related duties may also be assigned or required.
Position requires travel by aircraft up to 50% of the time. Some overnight travel may be necessary.
THIS POSITION REQUIRES:
A high school education (or equivalent).
At least one year of directly related experience.
Certain positions may require specific experience and/or training particular to such areas as full time commercial plant painting experience.
Must have a current Driver's License and three year clear driving record.

Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Write routine reports and correspondence.
Math skills sufficient to:
Add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Reasoning abilities sufficient to:
Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The
employee
is regularly required to stand, use hands, reach with hands and arms, talk and hear.
The employee frequently is required to walk, climb, and balance.
The employee is occasionally required to sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, and smell.
The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and may occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and risk of electrical shock.
The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; extreme cold; and vibration.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
