Waukesha County's Register of Deeds Office is seeking a full-time Deputy Register of Deeds. The
position
will assist the Register of Deeds in the performance of the duties of the office, act as office holder, and perform statutory duties of the Register of Deeds in the Register-s absence; and performs other duties as required. This position is appointed by the Register of Deeds and shall hold office at the Register-s pleasure.
Job Duties: Typical duties and responsibilities include: 1) Advising the staff and general public as to the interpretation of the
wisconsin
Statutes and administrative rules adopted by state agencies relating to various legal documents authorized to be record in the office of Register of Deeds; 2) Managing and overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Register of Deeds office. Assumes responsibility of the office in the absence of the Register of Deeds per statute; 3) Overseeing, coordinating, and monitoring the implementation and integration of automation systems within the office; 4) Selecting, assigning, training, supervising, and evaluating staff and handling any personnel concerns; 5) Directing and supervising the examination, review, and administration of all legal documents which are prescribed by law to be recorded with the office; and 6) Analyzing statutory changes and provides guidance on their impact on operations and direct required changes.
Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Ideal candidate will possess thorough knowledge of Wisconsin State Statues and Administrative Code as they apply to the Register of Deeds office along with knowledge of
real estate
, uniform commercial code, and vital statistics laws and their interpretations by the courts. Candidates should also have prior supervisory experience with excellent communication and coaching skills.
