Research Volunteers
Friends Research Institute is looking for opiate-dependent youth for a research study.
Opiate drugs include heroin, prescription medications, like OxyContin. If you are addicted to these drugs and want to stop using them, this study might be right for you. This study is evaluating a once a month injection of a medication called Vivitrol that is approved by the FDA for use in adults. The study will examine how well Vivitrol works for youth. Qualified volunteers must be willing to enter treatment at Mountain Manor Treatment Center in Baltimore. Health Insurance (private or Medicaid) is required to pay for the cost of treatment at Mountain Manor. Participation is confidential. Study Participants can earn up to $170 for participating in this study.
To qualify, you must be:
Between 15 and 21 years of age
Currently addicted to opiates (such as heroin or OxyContin)
Willing to enter residential treatment at Mountain Manor Treatment Center in Catonsville, MD for up to 10 days
Wiling to randomly assigned (like a flip of a coin) to get extended-release naltrexone (Vivitrol) or drug abuse treatment as usual, which may include the medication buprenorphine
