POSITION: Product Engineer
REPORTING TO: Assistant General Manager
LOCATION: Westborough
SHIFT: M-F, 8am 5pm
GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:
The Product Developers role is to drive the development of high performance display products and support the production of existing products, including resolution of manufacturing and assembly issues. Normally receives little instruction on day-to-day work, general instruction on new assignments.
SPECIFIC DUTIES - Essential (employee MUST be able to execute):
Focusing on Kopin commercial products, drive team activities to achieve product success throughout the life cycle of the product.
Participate in development of new product road maps.
Coordinate mapping of customer / market requirements into specific design and development requirements and engineering projects involving new and existing products.
Participate in which design paths are the most appropriate for a given product development project and work within the organization to make those designs a reality.
Communicate within the organization, including Sale & Marketing, on the impact and status of new product development efforts.
Drive the development of new product specifications.
Develop test requirements to ensure that new products are properly validated against the product specification.
Support all production transition activities, including preparation of drawings and the purchase of parts and material, selection of manufacturing processes and the preparation of routings.
Ensure approved changes in design and manufacturing processes are incorporated on appropriate drawings and technical sheets.
Provide technical support to vendors and manufacturing and assembly departments and assist with the resolution of problems and questions.
Evaluate prospective vendors for suitability as suppliers.
Investigate and take corrective action in response to customer satisfaction issues and material discrepancy reports.
Ability to guide and direct the work of other Engineers, Designers, and Technicians.
OTHER WORK TO BE PERFORMED:
Provide intuitive technical insight into problems and help the organization arrive at innovative and practical solutions.
Determine which products can benefit from cost reductions based on innovative design ideas.
Identify solutions resulting in new products which exceed the operating performance of the market competition while resulting in lower build costs.
Solve complex problems and deliver innovation to our customers.
Requirements:
Education: BSME. MSME preferred.
Experience: 10 years experience, experience in Process manufacturing, product or program management experience covering both design and mass production phases, direct product qualification experience, competent with quality metrics, direct face the customer experience.
Desired Personal Traits: Excellent technical writing, speaking and presentation skills.
