VOLUNTEER GRANT WRITER POSTION
HSN is a community based organization with a desire to bring caring love to many children who are desperately seeking help in the United States and Africa, specifically Uganda. Our goal is to support the vulnerable communities towards the improvement of their physical, social, economic, mental, spiritual and psychological well being.
Position overview:
This volunteer position involves researching available grants, writing grants and following up on proposals and project reports to institutional funders in the United States and elsewhere. You will work with the Executive Director and program staff to ensure that all proposals accurately reflect the mission, policies, budgets and programs.
Specific Functions:
• Research and write foundation, private, and corporate grant proposals and reports for restricted and unrestricted income (US based and international)
• Review publications and use research tools to identify new funding sources;
• Maintain grant schedule so that all proposals and reports meet deadlines required by funders;
• Work closely with program staff to insure accuracy of grant proposals and reports; better understand programs and projects to maximize grant proposals writing.
• Assist in the stewardship of funders. Prepare acknowledgment letters, cultivation mailings and other correspondence as needed.
• Participate in special events as appropriate;
• Assist in other fundraising writing and initiatives as needed;
Qualifications:
• Minimum 1 years experience as grant writer or equivalent writing experience
• Superior writing and research skills (please submit writing sample with application)
• Enthusiasm and commitment to the mission and goals of the Humanitarian Support Network
• Minimum B.A. or equivalent experience
• Must be able to research, analyze, and produce compelling materials in a timely manner;
• Strong administrative and organizational skills
• Experience with international development programs and/or funding a plus;
• Proficiency in Excel and Word
• Able to commit to 5-10 hours a week
