How do we know what we know about large populations and its byproducts?'
Examination of such questions requires critical thinking. Here is a short list of suggestions for good critical thinking practice:
Gather Complete information - more than one source.
Questions the source
Understand and define terms
Question methods by which results were derived.
Uncover assumptions and biases
Question the conclusions: do the facts support it? Is there evidence of bias? Remember correlation does not equal causation
For this essay:
You are to research an interesting and relevant statistic of your choice about population or its byproducts. I expect at least two sources, which must be the actual studies or collections of data, independent of each other. Note that most likely the sources will not be measuring trhe exact same thing, but have a slightly different take. It is up to you to make the connections and acknowledge the differences, and determine where the sources support each other, where they contradict, and what may be the source of that contradiction.
The goal of this essay is to analyze the validity of the sources and synthesize the results. The broad learning objective for this essay is to demonstrate statistical literacy.
